GES-2 is creating a public library specialising in contemporary art and building our collection based on the principles of curatorial and artistic research.

Our collection is structured around two main themes. The first focuses on exhibitions and artistic events held at GES-2 House of Culture; the library serves as an extended commentary on this programme, showcasing books exploring the context, philosophical ideas, and concepts underpinning these projects. The second theme includes publications dedicated to time-based media, such as choreography, music, film, theatre, performance art, and interactive art.

The book collection at GES-2 is curated by the V–A–C curatorial team and our programme participants. This approach means the collection may include books of diverse genres and content that have significantly influenced artistic practice, such as poetry, art literature, works on Eastern philosophy, biology, physics, or astrology.
In the GES-2 Library, we present Collections—thematic selections of books dedicated to individual projects of GES-2 House of Culture and various aspects of its artistic and public programmes. These Collections are curated by GES-2 curators, artists, and specialists, providing deeper insights into the House of Culture’s activities and demonstrating the internal logic of our projects and their contexts.
All publications may be taken off the shelves for study in the Reading Room. To take books to other areas within the GES-2 House of Culture, a library card is required, obtainable with your passport. This card provides a login and password, enabling you to order any books from the Library’s collection to the Reading Room via the electronic catalogue. Ordered items can be collected the following day.
The GES-2 Library is accessible to blind and low vision visitors: we offer specially equipped workstations and books in Braille.
