The exhibition The World in a Single Nest: Following the Way of Tagore features paintings by Rabindranath Tagore alongside works by contemporary artists, including Ruma Choudhury. She collects plant fibres, bark, stones, and dried flowers—materials typically regarded as waste—and transforms them into works of art. Her pieces are created in collaboration with nature itself, embracing the unpredictability of natural processes as an integral part of her creative method.

Ruma’s techniques are inherently experimental. She makes paper from grasses and recycled waste, substituting industrial materials with organic alternatives. For her, paper is not merely a surface to work on, but a work of art in its own right. In this approach, the line between art and craft dissolves; the meaning embedded in the process matters more than the finished result.
During the session, we’ll discuss Ruma’s distinctive techniques, the culture and way of life in the region, and how Rabindranath Tagore’s art and ideas have shaped it. We’ll also examine samples of materials intended for future artworks.
