Researching the Deaf Community

An interdisciplinary project dedicated to Deaf Studies.

T

Researching the Deaf Community (RDC) is an interdisciplinary project as part of the Deaf and Voiced programme at GES-2 House of Culture. The project contributes to the development of Deaf Studies, which is a new discipline for Russia, as well helping to further fundamental and applied research into the problems faced by the d/Deaf community today with particular focus on Deaf culture, sign language, education and the identity of individuals in the d/Deaf community.

The realisation of this project, grounded in contemporary social and cultural concepts of deafness, is impossible without the active involvement of Deaf and hard of hearing people, as well as like-minded hearing individuals. We are open to collaborating with educational and cultural institutions, as well as public organisations and grassroots initiative groups.

Curator
Vlad Kolesnikov is curator of programmes for the deaf community and accessibility for the deaf and hard of hearing at GES-2.
