Wendy Carroll and Lucy, a golden retriever mix, travel from Indiana to Alaska in hopes of finding a new life there. In Oregon, their car breaks down and the travellers are forced to stop. They have no money for repairs, and they are almost out of food for both the woman and her dog.

Fortunately, Reichardt is a minimalist first and a social critic second... [Wendy and Lucy] preaches in a whisper, not a shout—a whisper or, rather, a song, like the wordless, undulating hum that takes the place of a musical score.
—Sam Adams, The Los Angeles Times
The film’s plot is based on a story of loss, but its subject is more about the feeling of being lost. The vulnerability of the heroine’s world is conveyed through the intensity of the caring gaze between Michelle Williams and her dog that only cinema can convey.
The screening will be followed by the discussion with film expert Antonina Menshikova, co-organizer of the panel Kittens and Cows: (Critical) Animal Studies at the Vectors international conference.
