After falling out with the king of Portugal, the navigator Ferdinand Magellan travels to Madrid. The Spanish ruler wants him to open a new sea route to the archipelagos of the Pacific. By the time Magellan achieves this goal, he will no longer be the same: ideas of equality and respect for indigenous people will be replaced by the ambitions of a ruthless colonizer.

A hypnotizing historical and spiritual epic that’s immersive in a way that few decades-spanning stories successfully pull off.
— Josh Slater-Williams, IndieWire
The film confutes the myth of the European explorers’ greatness as thoroughly as it is spectacular: vivid and rich in dramatic events, including mutinies, executions and large-scale battles.
