On his way back to town from a hunting trip, old Khalifa meets the sneers of the young Jene. But the old man knows how to call on the spirits and will not hesitate to punish the offender so that she becomes his third wife. The other two, who will have to live under the same roof with Jene, can only throw up their hands. Khalifa, too, has yet to find out about the manners and daring of modern girls.

It’s clear that in the decades in between Touré has not lost any of his genius, his storytelling is as crisp as ever.
— Olaf Möller, International Film Festival Rotterdam
Drissa Touré’s first work in 30 years, Woman of Values captures a society torn between modernity and tradition, and demonstrates the director’s rare gift for carving absurdity out of realism. It is a truly African film that refuses to compromise in order to please foreigners.
