Visita ou Memórias e Confissões
1982, Manoel de Oliveira
Portugal
73 minutes, Portuguese with Russian subtitles
documentary
At 73, Manuel de Oliveira shot Visit or Memories and Confessions as a creative testament and permitted it to be released only after his death. But the piece, created by the elderly director anticipating retirement, ended up laying on the shelf for more than thirty years, during which Oliveira managed to make forty more films.

Alas, film history is light on movies that have truly altered the way we read the world around us, but here, in Oliveira’s testament, everything has a secret magnanimously to share.
— Boris Nelepo, Mubi Notebook
Memories, brutally honest confessions, ghosts from the master’s long life—all this forms a film that is both documentary and ethereal, self-critical and narcissistic, which does not leave Oliveira’s house, but lets in mysterious guests, invisible to the eye, but sounding off-screen.
