Elvira and Alma’s mother had married a widower, but he died on the first wedding night, leaving the new family in charge of his own daughter, the beautiful Agnes. The stepdaughter is charged with the household chores, while the mother of the family throws all her energies into trying to get Elvira married. The girl is unattractive, to put it mildly, but plastic surgeons promise to fix that.

Shot from The Ugly Stepsister, 2024
Slyly funny and visually captivating, the film moves with ease from gross to gorgeous, and from grotesque to magical.
— Jeannette Katsoulis, The New York Times
Director Emily Blichfeldt tells the well-known story of Cinderella from the point of view of her eldest stepsister, portrayed as silly and toxic in the classic fairy tale. The story gets much more fascinating with a new perspective: it combines a body horror, a satire on the beauty industry, and moments of genuine transgression.
