The 1980s New York City is populated by anthropomorphic animals who don’t even think of missing their human counterparts. Only Dog is sad: he has neither family nor friends. He orders a Robot companion for himself, and he loves it, until circumstances treacherously separate the friends.

Pablo Berger does not need dialogue to evoke the most diverse and yet deep feelings in the viewer time after time. This colourful cartoon clearly demonstrates the possibilities of drawn animation, as well as the director’s style, poignant in its charm.
Above all else, Berger’s film delights in the kind of eccentric, incidental sights and sounds from which dreams — human, animal or android — can spring.
