A plastic surgery clinic in Quebec has developed an innovative skin transplant technique. Finding a test patient doesn’t take long: a couple on a motorbike crashes near the hospital, and the girl is rushed into the operating room. When the heroine wakes up from a coma, she begins to experience an insatiable thirst for human blood, and a bizarre carnivorous growth appears in her armpit.

Shot from Rabid, 1977

None of the other recent apocalypse movies has shown so much political or cinematic sophistication.

— Phil de Semlyen, TimeOut

In Rabid, Cronenberg for the first time truly realizes his vision of cinema as a feverish dream, prophesying for humanity not only new pandemics, but also a new eroticism and new notion of itself.
