An interdisciplinary project dedicated to Deaf Studies.

T

Researching the Deaf Community (RDC) is an interdisciplinary project as part of the Deaf and Voiced programme at GES-2 House of Culture. The project contributes to the development of Deaf Studies, which is a new discipline for Russia, as well helping to further fundamental and applied research into the problems faced by the d/Deaf community today with particular focus on Deaf culture, sign language, education and the identity of individuals in the d/Deaf community.

Curator
Vlad Kolesnikov is curator of programmes for the deaf community and accessibility for the deaf and hard of hearing at GES-2.

Success of the project, which is centred on current social and cultural concepts of deafness, would not be possible without the involvement of both people who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing, and also of like-minded people who are not deaf. We are open to cooperation with educational and cultural institutions, as well as public organisations and initiative groups.
