Nothing can cheer up a life-weary vampire—neither music, nor new guitars. After securing a wooden bullet, Adam is waiting for the right opportunity, but instead Eve comes back into his life, and with her the simple pleasures like blood and chess. The idyll of love is interrupted by the arrival of Ava, Eve’s sister. A relaxed, rock’n’roll, ironically apocalyptic coda film, which allowed Jarmusch to find a common language with the new generation. Special treat: Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston as the vampire lovers.

Only Lovers Left Alive is Top 5 Jim Jarmusch for sure; a long, warm bath in sensuality, with flashes of Wong-Kar Wai amid the ennui. In its deliberate slowness, it also ends up feeling like a requiem for 20th century film storytelling, and for the pre-digital world.
