Paris, 1959. Jean-Luc Godard begins work on his first film, Breathless, which will change cinema forever. The director has neither experience nor a proper script, and the lead actress doesn’t hide her scepticism about the debutant. The shooting of the masterpiece turned out to be so chaotic and unconventional that Richard Linklater had enough material for a fascinating and utterly charming feature film about it.

Shot from Nouvelle Vague, 2025
A labor of love and a product of considerable craft, Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague is more than just a valentine to the French New Wave; the film is also a stealth showcase for a filmmaker rarely heralded for his technical sophistication.

The screening on 4 November will be followed by a discussion with directors Sonya Reizman and Sergei Malkin, winners of the Mayak Festival.
