Kate Winslet solos in a thorough film about the legendary war photojournalist.

2023, Ellen Kuras

United States–United Kingdom
116 minutes, English with Russian subtitles

Starring: Kate Winslet, Alexander Skarsgård, Andy Samberg, Andrea Riseborough

T

Lee Miller was a model and muse, friends with Man Ray and Jean Cocteau, but her main experience in life was World War II. The young woman went through it, capturing the brutal battles on the Western Front, the liberation of Paris, and concentration camps.

Shot from Lee, 2023

Lee asks you to look at subjects you think you already know from a different angle and witness what should never be forgotten.

Surprisingly, Miller did not receive full recognition during her lifetime, and this injustice is largely overcome by the film. In Kate Winslet’s noble performance, the photographer appears as one of the most important unsung figures of the Second World War, who has proved by her own example that war has a female face.
