Sex and electronics—that’s how one of the genre’s founding fathers formulated its essence. On the one hand, quite exhaustive. On the other hand, it’s just the beginning of the story. Emerging from industrial and punk, EBM was hard to define, included bands as diverse as Cabaret Voltaire and Ministry, and died out almost as quickly as it had ignited.
