The director, who made a name for himself with his debut film but then got bogged down in commercial nonsense, wants to return with a masterpiece. All that’s left is to reshoot the ending of his new film. But it’s the 1970s Korea: financiers are desperate to save money, scripts are censored, actors are dissatisfied... Kim Ji-woon’s new work combines several films at once: an ironic movie about cinema, a spectacular black-and-white thriller that the hero shoots, and a portrait of the whole unhealthy and troubled era.
