T

XVI century, Yucatan Peninsula. A squad of human hunters comes to the village: they ravage everything they see, and take the captives to a Mayan city, where they face imminent death in a mass sacrifice. But the young hunter Jaguar Paw will refuse to give in to fear and cruel fate.

Gibson’s film, grotesquely ambitious on the level of both the staging and the pathos of the ideas embedded in it, has very little to do with historical accuracy. However, his action-adventure captures you from the very first frames and does not let go until the very finale, increasing the pace of the chases and the intricacy of the battle scenes.

Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto is pathologically brilliant. It is bizarre, stomach-turningly violent and frequently inspired.
