Do you fear a blank page? And what if it’s graph paper—does breaking its whiteness feel as daunting? In this Sunday workshop, we’ll work with office materials and challenge the conventional perception of stationery. Grab a hole punch, stapler, correction fluid, and let’s make the unartistic artistic! We’ll see what results we can achieve with ordinary coloured tape and how the symmetry of a notebook spread can spark new ideas. Also, choosing these tools allows you to focus less on perfection and more on generating multiple concepts while the inspiration lasts.

A few months ago, Yura Adomeyko stumbled upon a large box filled with Bionicle sets—masked robots he enjoyed playing with as a child—and decided to assemble one for his daughter. The resulting figure reminded him of African masks. Inspired by this experience, he used coloured tape to craft his first symmetrical abstract character on the pages of a simple spiral notebook. What began as a casual exercise quickly became an obsession, and soon he had created an entire series.
The use of a notebook as the primary medium naturally encourages thinking in terms of series rather than individual images and develops a project-oriented mindset. Much like a book, a notebook has its own rhythm and is perceived as a cohesive whole, composed of individual compositional elements. At the workshop, we’ll begin filling the notebook with straightforward instructions from the artist, allowing you to continue the process at home.
