In the early 1980s, the Korean-born artist Nam June Paik was hailed as the father of video art—and it soon became clear that he had in fact foreseen not only the new era in art, but also video clips, smartphones, memes, the internet and, it seems, the contemporary world itself, with its endless stream of visual images.

Shot from Nam June Paik: Moon Is the Oldest TV, 2023

This film helps keep us from losing sight of him and his work in the flood of images that he helped set in motion.

— David D’Arcy, The Art Newspaper

Director Amanda Kim draws the energy of her film from Pike’s works, their endlessly inventive manipulation of visuals, and their insightful gaze into the future.
